On December 1, 2015, SMACNA Detroit and SMART Local Union 80 partnered to develop a
Ready to Work Safety Program. This agreement creates a state of the art safety program that benefits both contractors and union members alike. This new program will help contractors capture jobs as owner requirements and safety standards continue to become mandatory in bid documents.
Not only does the Ready to Work Safety Program establish specific safety practices but the program also creates an opportunity to promote our longstanding tradition of highly qualified contractors and well-trained union members.
The program requires Local 80 workers to maintain current MUST Drug Testing, current MUST 18 Safety Modules, First Aid certification, OSHA 30, and includes a customized web based sheet metal industry Safety Module which certifies workers in the following areas of safety:
- Shop Safety,
- Lockout & Tag out
- Confined Space Training
- Welding Safety
- Fall Protection
- Asbestos & Lead Awareness
- Temporary Traffic
- Scaffolding
- Hazard Communication
- Pre-Task Planning
- Rigging
